My name is Nicholas Hinsley and I will be running 13 marathons in 13 months for Children’s Hospital Boston starting with the Boston Marathon this April. I am married (for 12 years) to my wife Karen and have two children — Quinn (4 yrs old) and Ian (2 yrs old). I am a science teacher at the Ross A Lurgio Middle School in Bedford NH. Why run 13 marathons? Well, I am turning 40 in March ‘09 and wanted to do something to celebrate this event. I have run for Children’s Hospital Boston Miles for Miracles the past four years and felt that I could raise money for them as well as running 13 marathons. It was going to be 12 marathons, one a month, but I couldn’t miss running Boston in ‘09–so it will be 13.
I have run 23 marathons to date — Boston MA (x5), Myrtle Beach SC, Vermont City VT, Clarence Demar NH, New York City NY, Hartford CT, Austin TX, Akron OH, Quad City IL, Hyannis MA, Marine Corps DC, Portland ME, Napa Valley CA, Manchester NH, New Jersey NJ, Jay Challenge VT, Grandma’s MN, Park City UT, and Breakers RI
My PR is 2:51 Boston ‘08
This is my 5th time running for Children’s Hospital Boston. This year, I will be running in honor of my patient partner at Children’s Hospital — Zach. I will be dedicating all 13 marathons to him. Zach is a 8th grader at my middle school who has been recently diagnosed with leukemia. He was diagnosed Christmas of ‘07 and has received treatment at Children’s since. To sum up Zach–he is courageous. A person who is always upbeat and positive, and hasn’t let his disease get him down. Zach will be off to Washington to represent New Hampshire and be an advocate for funding and research for childhood diseases.
The discomfort that I experience is a fraction of what they have gone through. Whenever I feel sore or down, I just need to think of them and I can find the strength to continue.

THANK YOU FOR DEDICATING THE MARITHONS TO OUR GRANDSON ZACHARY BARTHELEMY. HE IS TRULY THE GREATEST KID. HE CALLED TODAY (4/21/08) TO SAY THAT HE WAS THERE AT MIDPOINT TO CHEER YOU ON IN YOUR RUN. I SPENT THE FIRST MONTH IN N.H. AFTER HE STARTED TREATMENT. CHILDRENS HOSPITAL BOSTON IS AWSOME.
STAY HEALTHY AND TRAIN HARD JUST AS ZACH PLANS TO FIGHT LEUKEMIA WITH EVERTHING HE HAS.

I was reading about 2008 “most memorable stories and people of the year” in the Jan 9 Bedford Journal and read about your goal of running 13 marathons in 13 months. I think that is fantastic and will be mailing a donation to you. Good luck in your remaining runs and I hope you reach your goal.
